A sad state of affairs was when
A blind man was appointed
To be the lookout
A deaf man was asked
To hear the people’s cries
The one who couldn’t speak
The people’s spokes person
Who better to express the people’s feeling
The charismatic invisible man
The one man we all look up to
To represent the people.
A sad state of affairs
Wouldn’t you agree?
Ah! politicians they do know what is best
Especially for us mere citizens
Where would we be without them.

Ahh what a sad state of affairs INDEED! What a great poem you should submit that to the New Yorker!
Sep 23, 2010 @ 19:31:58
I liked where you went with this piece. One small suggestion would be to space the poem out in terms of your theme and then add each of your observations to support the theme. All suggestions aside, it was a well aimed poem.

amen! you said it all.

Very funny but, sadly, often true.

It only took a couple of lines for me to think “politicians!” Well done.
Sep 26, 2010 @ 13:37:14
A clever rant you’ve posted here, U-I 🙂 !
We’ll always be looking up for help from that invisible one, huh?
Problem is…he/she often comes well-disguised in cheap dark sunglasses.
And we all know how deceiving appearances can be. Alas, if only our perceptions…
Where wood we be without politicians? Still in Plato’s cave most likely 🙂
Nice to meet you! Peace, Uncle Tree

clever rant, the sarcasm in the voice is pointedly amazing 🙂 well done!
Rally Week 29, My Poem

I found that this poem is ironic.
“Ah! politicians they do know what is best
Especially for us mere citizens
Where would we be without them.”

i can almost hear the *smirk* between each line of your poem. what you’ve written is probably one of the longest standing global phenomena. heh.

AHH! politicians can’t stand em (they lie too much). Can’t live with em(you wind up in the poor house). Can’t shoot em (you go to jail unless the cops are behind you). Nothing else to do but vote another one in but then…isn’t that a politician too? crud!
